2017 Meet the Candidates Forum

Following up on our successful 2013 event, we will be inviting candidates running for various city-wide offices in the 2017 election, and asking them questions on their support for the League's Performing Arts Platform.

Then, the League will be soliciting YOUR INPUT on WHO TO ENDORSE in the 2017 election! This is a key opportunity for your voice as working performing artists to be heard on key community issues such as housing, healthcare, sustainable rehearsal/performance space, and more.

Deadline for the Charter Barter Program

LIT's successful and awesome Charter Barter program pairs a theater company with a middle school in Queens. In exchange for up to 25 hours of free rehearsal per week the theater company would run a weekly drama/theater club. The space is available Monday through Friday from 5-9PM and Saturdays from 9-5. The school would hope to see at least one show (preferably two) come from the weekly meetings - either a full play or scenes/monologues etc.

New Rehearsal Space Opportunity in DUMBO

GK Arts Center (GKA) recently took over the former St. Ann’s Warehouse in DUMBO and created four spectacular studios while maintaining its theater space. GKA is interested in partnering with companies on a curated rental series beginning in mid-January. Companies should think of this as their artistic home in which readings, rehearsals, workshops, intensives and showings could be held. Space in the studios will be available on evenings and weekends at a significantly discounted rate. Space in the theater will be available on a case by case basis as well. This opportunity is open to league members only. GK Arts Center is looking for companies that are process oriented and are interested in developing their pieces, in various stages, over time. They are open to straight and musical theater, dance and movement theater etc. We are hoping a long term arrangement like this can allow companies to think of their work in terms of a season. The brand new studios have a mirrored wall, are equipped with basic sound equipment, sprung floors and incredibly high ceilings. The Center is located in DUMBO, near many restaurants, bars and cafes and convenient to the city. This is a wonderful opportunity to put some roots down and work within a bustling center for theater and dance.
