WHAT WE DO
The League was formed to empower, unify, and protect the voices and interests of those who work and enjoy independent theater across the five boroughs. Please join us here.
The League of Independent Theater is a 501(c) 6 non-profit advocacy organization for the creators and practitioners of independent theater in New York City. Because of this designation, we are permitted to make endorsements of political candidates.
Current Actions:
Pushing rent forgiveness legislation by hosting a town hall and other direct actions to help indie theater spaces affected by the COVID-19 crisis, also seeking long-term solutions for performance and rehearsal spaces.
Supporting racial equity practices, including police accountability reform.
Promoting legislation (CitySpaces) to allow artists to access city-owned property.
Distributing an Artist-Activist Action Newsletter. (Want to get it? Join now!)
