| From the Executive Director: It is a gratifying thing to see a dream come true. In 2009, the dream of an advocacy organization devoted to supporting and promoting the artistic and economic interests of theater practitioners working in 99 seat theaters in New York became a reality, and that happened when the League of Independent Theater (LIT) was formed. You can read below and in the committee reports the accomplishments and activity of the League in the past year, but I’d just like to point out the remarkable fact of the League. For the first time in the decades-long history of off-off Broadway and Independent (OOB-I) theater, artists, administrators, venues, companies and service organizations have united in a collective effort to improve our working conditions and speak with one voice to the decision-makers and power brokers in our city. The League of Independent Theater began and continues to grow as a grass-roots organization, an organization that is successful only to the extent that it listens to and speaks for its membership. I thank everyone who is involved and urge all the entire community to stay committed, active and vocal. You are, and continue to be, what makes the dream of LIT a powerful and present reality. And so we begin another year. My vow to you is that we will continue to advocate for our community, continue to fight for the recognition and respect our community deserves and continue to raise the issues so important to the independent theater artists and companies of New York City. Finally, I want to thank the Committee Heads and Board of Directors for all of their work during the year and, most especially, my fellow officers Jennifer Conley Darling and Paul Bargetto, who have volunteered so much of their invaluable time and energy to the organization. It is an honor to work with such dedicated people. John Clancy Executive Director League of Independent Theater Review of Major Accomplishments: 2009 was a building year for LIT and while a good portion of our accomplishments were internally-focused, we successfully implemented numerous community-based projects.
