It’s expensive to live in New York City. It’s nearly impossible to rent space to rehearse and perform if you are an independent theater artist or producer. In terms of theater real estate, there have been major losses and hard-won victories. We know we will continue to have ups and downs.
The League of Independent Theater is working on several initiatives to help off-set the costs for building owners to rent to theaters. We are also working to find new avenues for heavily subsidized rehearsal space. When artists come into a neighborhood so does business and everything begins to blossom.
