Green

Green Practices Working Group is LIT’s newest initiative. We are dedicated to encouraging ecological practices among Indie Theater artists through multiple avenues:

Green Captains. In partnership with the Broadway Green Alliance, we will solicit representatives from independent theater companies and productions to uphold ecological practices throughout their theater-making process, and to be liaisons with the Broadway Green Alliance in order to communicate information and opportunities to their collaborators.

Salons. We will host Salons for interested individuals and concerned citizens across many disciplines (arts, science, policy) to collectively generate ideas and solutions, and to cultivate a community surrounding ecological theater practices. We will collaborate with Public Partners to voice our concerns and to brainstorm sustainable solutions for Indie Theater artists and venues seeking to curb their environmental footprint and expand their resources.

Blog. We will begin a blog exploring how Indie Theater artists of diverse generations and disciplines are incorporating green practices and ideas into their work, in order to inspire the LIT community both artistically and practically to make their own ecological changes.

Why? The League of Independent Theater is proud to be on the forefront of a shift in cultural consciousness, wherein the care we take in our artistic practice and our care for the environment become one and the same. In the face of a global environmental crisis, LIT wants to empower independent artists to be leaders of great positive change. We believe this change can be beneficial to Indie Artists' process and pocketbook as well as peace of mind; there are countless ways that “going green” can be an economic boon, and an artistic one.

We need people to help get this Working Group up and running! Join us today!
