REAL ESTATE

Collective: Unconscious began at 145 Ludlow Street in 1994. It moved to Tribeca in 2004 and was open until 2008.
In New York City, it is expensive and difficult as an independent theater artist or producer to rent space to rehearse and perform. In terms of theater real estate, there have been major losses and hard-won victories. We know we will continue to have ups and downs.
The League of Independent Theater is working on several initiatives to help off-set the costs for building owners to rent to theaters. We are searching for new avenues for heavily subsidized rehearsal space. We are working to help preserve existing theater spaces. When artists come into a neighborhood so does business and everything begins to blossom. We are working for what is good for independent theater artists and the neighborhoods where they work.
