Equity

The League of Independent Theater recognizes and celebrates the good work of Actors’ Equity Association since 1912. We respectfully request to be able to discuss options that will allow those creating independent theater to work with actors who are members of Actors’ Equity in a more beneficial way for both sides. Many members of the League are also card-carrying AEA actors. We want good and positive outcomes for everyone involved.

We want to create conditions that will allow independent theater practitioners to rehearse and run productions for lengths of time worthy of everyone involved, including our audiences.

We want to restore New York City’s reputation as the place where young artists are welcomed and have a decent chance of staying and creating a body of work in our city. We look forward to many conversations on this matter. We believe a new waiver or agreement would be good for our actors, our city, and our souls.

If you have thoughts on what would make for a good Independent Theater Code or Contract, please let us know here. If you are a member of Actors’ Equity and would like to give us a nod of support, please do so here as well. Your responses will be kept confidential.
